BHN Basketball crowns the Sydney Kings!

A once in a lifetime opportunity for our BHN Ballers

Following the recent news that NBL26 Championship Series MVP Kendric Davis has re-signed with the Sydney Kings on a massive 2 year deal , we thought we'd look back at those incredible home games at Qudos Bank Arena from the playoffs right through to the finals, and how a little basketball club from the Hills District got the opportunity of a lifetime.

After regularly bumping into other families from the club at Sydney Kings games throughout the season, BHN Basketball Communications Manager Michelle Arthur thought that the upcoming playoffs would be a perfect chance to bring together their community. Discovering the Kings' newly launched group ticketing program, Michelle got in touch with the team at Hoops Capital to talk about the options available and locked in a pretty sweet deal for their first club outing.

For game 1 of the playoffs in March against the Perth Wildcats, a small (but very loud!) group of about 30 BHN Basketballers attended, armed with noisemakers and cheering the minor premiers Sydney Kings on to victory while forming fast friendships with other players and families from the club. With the series progressing to a third game to be played at QBA and having received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the BHN Basketball community, the group expanded to about 50 (with numbers only hindered by the next day's NAPLAN exams!) The atmosphere was electric and culminated in the Kings bringing home the W and many voices lost in Section 4 and beyond. The Sydney Kings were finals bound.

Interest quickly spread throughout the club and by the time game 1 of the championship series rolled around, the BHN Basketball group had doubled to at least 100 patrons. Hoops Capital continued to be the perfect host, generously providing us all with Sydney Kings members caps, much to the delight of our ballers! BHN Basketball again brought the energy and the Sydney Kings took out game 1 against the Adelaide 36ers with a convincing 44 point win.

In the background, bigger plans were forming...

We watched game 2 from afar, through TVs and mobiles, eagerly awaiting the results from Adelaide. It was the definition of a nailbiter with a heart-breaking end, the game being pushed into overtime and Bryce Cotton securing the win for the 36ers with a buzzer-beating layup . The series would go to the best of 5 games.

The plans continued, just delayed for now...

Game 3 and the BHN Basketball crew are at full capacity, well over 100 strong. Fuelled by their devastating game 2 loss, the Kings were determined to come back strong and with shiny gold crowns atop our heads, we roared our support amidst the record-breaking crowd at QBA as they brought home a 13 point win over the 36ers. We're now convinced that BHN Basketball's presence is the Sydney Kings lucky charm and cross our fingers we go to game 5, where our plans could finally be put into action...

Game 4 back in Adelaide was a repeat of game 2 - neck and neck throughout with the win being claimed by the home team in the dying seconds of the game, Torrey Craig missing a free throw which would've levelled the score and forced the game into overtime.

Game 5. The plan is locked in.

Coinciding with the Easter long weekend, we're sadly missing some of our regular BHN Basketball cohort but we can feel them there in spirit. Adjusting our crowns, we made our presence known and cheered our Kings on, louder than ever. On the edge of our seats the whole time, impossible to determine who will win, knowing the plan hinges on a final Sydney triumph. By the fourth quarter, the tension is agonising. With 5 minutes left on the clock and our fingers firmly crossed, 18 BHN Basketballers, accompanied by Club President Laura Duselis and Hoops Capital's Ticketing & Membership Manager Daniel Kula, make their way down to the arena's tunnel and lie in wait.

The seconds tick by ever so slowly, still with no clear winner until finally, the clock stops, and the scores are tied at 95-95. Overtime begins and the Sydney Kings emerge regenerated, a force to be reckoned with. Two key players for the Sixers foul out and the Kings, fired up by the NBL record crowd, outscore Adelaide 18 to 6. The game ends and the Sydney Kings begin their victory lap as NBL26 champions.

The plan rolls into action at last...

Those 18 lucky BHN Basketballers, now proudly kitted out in NBL Hungry Jacks t-shirts and with precious cargo in their hands, line up to take the stage one by one. They've been tasked with the incredible honour of presenting their idols, the Sydney Kings, with their NBL26 championship rings. They diligently perform their duties, bursting with pride and excitement as they shake hands with the players and staff, exchanging the coveted rings for their very own championship hats.

This is the stuff that dreams are made of. The looks on their faces as they ran back to their seats, desperate to tell friends and family about their experience, will be ingrained in our memories forever, just as that once in a lifetime experience will be in theirs. To the Sydney Kings - let's go again for NBL27! Your devoted fans (and lucky charms) at BHN Basketball will be there to cheer you on, sacrificing their vocal cords for you any day of the week.

Come and play with us!

As strange as it is to be thinking about winter in the middle of a heatwave, BHN Basketball are indeed taking registrations and expressions of interest for the upcoming 2026 Winter competition at Hills Basketball Association.

The Winter season starts week 1 of term 2 and runs through to the end of term 3. No games are played during the school holidays. Our teams start from Under 9s all the way up to Under 18s, as well as adult teams for any parents who might be keen to give basketball a go! No experience is necessary, although we do prefer our older members to have played a season or two at least. We hold numerous training sessions every week for our players to help them work on their skills and development, and we also encourage participation in the Hornets Academy and Hornets Development Program for those that would like to build and refine their abilities.

Current BHN Basketball players (ie those playing for us in summer competition) can register via the Club Lobby in 360Player .
